6月26日 Demo Travel PostDisclaimer: This is an old email, but I'm using to sort out some formatting issues before my next travels begin. Greetings One and All, I'd like to start by asking how I was convinced to collect firewood instead of sleeping before catching my plane? Anyway, after a sleepless night, I drooled my way to the airport and managed to get on the plane. The flight was good, apart from the inflight movie. I wish it had been me blasted out of the sewer system instead of watching Catwoman do it. Sometime during the flight, the local temperature was told to us: -2 - luckily I had taken a t-shirt on the plane with me to keep warm. Actually, the temperature isn't too bad - if you're into sticking ice cubes up your nostrils and into any other orifices you can find. After arriving at James Browns god child (you'll work it out). I had a pleasant 2.5 hr wait whilst my friend worked out that I wasn't arriving the following day. It must be something about the airport that keeps me waiting there everytime. He ended up calling another friend and she came to pick me up. Then we all met up later for dinner etc. On the weekend I joined a skiing trip with max and his friends. We stayed at the ski resort, and had a fantastic time. I ended up quite pleased with my skiing abilities. The whole trip was really good. And there was plenty of snow falling, to keep things fresh. So far I have been a little surprised with Seoul. I was expecting it to be more like Japan - but actually, there are very few Japanese here. I've also worked out that every apartment building was designed by the same guy, and constructed with lego - resulting in a 2 hr walk to find which block and building I am staying in. I've met and contacted everyone I knew in korea, as well as making a number of new friends. Seems like most people I'm going to be hanging out with will be Korean - which is great, but I've just got to get used to the feeling of sucking on a soldering iron everytime we eat. Actually, today wasn't too bad, so maybe I am getting used to the spice. Not sure where the time goes. I've heard about losing some time after an airplane flight, but 2 years? Anyway, other than having a few drinks to celebrate my 24th birthday and ponder where I lost my youth - I think it was on a jungle trail back in Vietnam... I've spent the week meeting people and sightseeing. I'm starting to get used to the temperature now, and I think Brisbane City Council could really learn something from Seoul. Instead of hiring all those people to sweep the gutters at 3:00am, they could just cover everything under a blanket of snow. Much cheaper. Well, I managed also to see about 5 of the most famous singers/groups in Korea at the moment at a concert last week, although for all I care it might as have well been backyard Bob singing karaoke. Though I have heard many of the songs on TV and the radio. I now can successfully navigate the subway system - occasionally even on a train. Seems like the jobs are starting to line up, so I shouldn't have any problem with getting some work when I desire. Did I say desire? Perhaps need is more correct. Already met a number of people and their friends, and it seems like the trend will continue. The other thing I like about this country is that even if you've been drinking all night, slept on the floor, got up after only a couple of hours sleep, with a major hair malfunction. People just comment on how cool your hair looks - "How do you get the bits to spike up every direction?" I say "half a bottle of whisky" and they respond "Is that before or after the conditioner?"... Other than that, the average person here is very friendly, more so than Japan, which makes for a pleasant walk through shops and trying to purchase things that you would never have thought edible. Another great Korean tradition is for 1 person to pay for all the meals/drinks. Usually the oldest person, or the host, then it cycles through people in subsequent meetings. Its been great for me so far, being new, but I can feel a big bite coming in the next week or two, when it is my turn. Might be a case of my Malaria flaring up again that week ;) I trust things are well in your parts of the world, and I'll send another mail some other time, or a femail if you're lucky. Garth ps. the stuff about me being 24, is that it is my korean age. I'm sure if you're more interested about how it works, you can find plenty about it yourself. Get the hint? ;) 6月25日 Messenger Plus LiveThe wait is over (if any of you were waiting...) Messenger Plus Live has been released (although due to traffic the site is currently down, but you can get a mirror here). Top stuff.
Spaces is about to change over to, you guessed it, Live Spaces (post at The Space Craft). Going to be adding more features, and changing layout etc. A much needed improvement. Starting to get better/how it should've been in the first place.
Opera On another topic. Opera 9 was release recently. 6月22日 Live awayJust installed it. It is the successor to Outlook Express and appears vastly superior. Good intergration with Messenger and Spaces, and other online features. However, I generally use the web mail, and I'm not sure if I will use this.
Interesting non-the-less. Sign up here.
Is finally out of beta (note they released an updated version a day after the initial release). A great client.
Due out this weekend.
Updated to the new Live look - the whispy lines on the gradient. 6月12日 Can't Hardly Wait Can't Hardly Wait, I love that movie - so funny. I'm amazed at the cast (bit-characters) and how many of them now have major parts in their own series'. There's Scrubs, How I met your mother and heaps from Buffy, not too mention all the teen movies that people have been in.Just got to wait for the special edition where Greedo shoots first. 6月6日 Microsoft Adds More Betterer SpellingAs described in this MSDN blog, Office 2007 is going to include contextual spelling. From the article:
I have to say that this is a very good addition to the Office products and I hope that this gets included in as many other programs as possible. -Blair Images: 6月4日 Dave's buccaneers partySpent the weekend on Straddie, fun time. A couple of crappy snaps here (I'll add more as I get them). |
